Mark Twain's novel "The Prince and the Pauper" has been adapted to film multiple times – let's hear from two of them. The 1937 version starring Errol Flynn had a grand adventure score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, and the 1977 version (aka "Crossed Swords") inspired a zesty score from Maurice Jarre.

David Garland also presents music from another novel-to-film adaptation, the Merchant-Ivory production of E. M. Forster's "A Room with a View," including music by both Richard Robbins and Giacomo Puccini. As a bonus, director James Ivory himself comments on the function of music in his films.
